Clemence's Bracelet
Clemence bought it for herself, which was rather the point. She had spent a decade waiting to be given jewellery and decided, on a grey Tuesday in her thirty-fourth year, that waiting was a poor strategy. She chose round sapphires, because round is kind, and blue because it was the colour of the sea she swam in as a child, the one her mother called good for the soul.
It has been to two weddings, one funeral, and a great many ordinary mornings. The sapphires have never once looked wrong, which is more than she can say for most of her wardrobe.
Round cut blue sapphires sit in an unbroken line here, each one held in gold claws and separated by created diamonds, so the light moves along your wrist rather than sitting still. Against a warm yellow gold finish the blue deepens, reading rich and royal rather than bright, which is why this reads as heirloom rather than costume.
